XML
eXtensible Markup Language (XML) is a format for storing structured information (originally derived from SGML). XML is increasingly being used in content management systems to support advanced features such as SingleSourcePublishing and content reuse.
XML is also an important format for interchange of information between systems (the web services technologies are built on XML). For full details on XML, see the W3C site.
